Community Welfare Development Foundation (Yapkema) Paniai cooperate with the Municipality of Paniai, Oxfam GB, and Papua Kingmi Church will hold a Festival of Cultures on the edge of Lake Paniai Paniai, Enarotali on 22 sd October 26, 2009.
Director Yapkema Paniai, Hanok Herison Pigai, SE said the Cultural Festival on the theme "Changing to Be Strong" will be attended by tens of thousands of people Mee. Cultural Festival was held in order to strengthen the identity and dignity to the people-Mee-Mee in Papua as a glorious creation of God.
"Cultural values Mee people are now starting to run over by popular culture. Yet culture is copyright itukan human feeling and intention that is given by God. So, people should keep it as an identity Mee. If we lose the culture, it will run over time, "said Hanok.
Cultural Festival will feature various competitions, among others Totauga, Tupe, Bedouyouga, devices, Kaido, Bagaimakido, Fishing, Swimming, Rowing, Writing, Drawing, Kampung Net, and others. Hanok words, everyone started from Mapiha Mee, Kamuu, Wagethe, and Enarotali will wear traditional clothes (koteka-MOGE). Also, will hold worship TRC by presenting 10 speakers including the Rev.. Dr. Benny Giyai (as the general chairman, red).
"We consider it important to make efforts pemberdayaaan and development of indigenous culture and Mee to remain a philosophical basis and values that were held by society as a guide berkehidupan Paniai everyday," he said.
From the Papua Special Autonomy Law, said Hanok, preservation of culture of the Papuans is a mandate that is set in it. At 43 paragraph 2 states that the obligation of the Papua Province one of which is to recognize and respect, protect and develop empowering indigenous rights and individual rights of citizens of customary law. In addition, in article 57 paragraph 1 also expressed the obligation for the government of Papua province to protect, nurture and develop the culture of indigenous Papuans.
Violence Against Women Not Culture Paniai Hanok say, violence against women is not a culture of Paniai. Basically, the values in Paniai culture has always taught the existence of peace, mutual respect, and keep meghormati amongst human beings, without distinction of men and women.
Hanok explained, Yapkema and Oxfam GB through the Raising Her Voice consider it important to make efforts pemberdayaaan and development of indigenous culture and Paniai to remain a philosophical basis and
values that were held by society as a guide berkehidupan Paniai everyday "One important message to be conveyed in Paniai Lake Festival is to ensure the existence of a common understanding in society Paniai, that violence against women is not part of traditional values and culture Paniai District.
