Teacher Salary Increase in Remote Areas

Jakarta - Minister of National Education Bambang Sudibyo state teachers' salaries in 2009 will rise, including those in remote areas. "Salaries of at least Rp 2 million. It's for the teachers' civil servant class II / B without a certificate of the teaching profession with 0 years," he said in a working meeting with the Education Commission of the House of Representatives in Jakarta yesterday. 

For civil service class teacher IV / E certified profession, his salary will reach USD 6.9 million dollars. Salary does not include benefits of functional and professional allowances for teachers with a certificate. The government, Bambang said, also would provide functional benefits to teachers of non-permanent civil servants who do not graduate Rp 250 thousand per month and the minimum degree of Rp 300 thousand per month.  Bambang also said the income of 30 thousand teachers in remote areas will also rise. While previously certified teachers in remote areas which are paid by Rp 2.29 million in 2008, his salary will increase to USD 5.1 million in 2009. Teachers in remote areas that have not been certified, which previously received USD 2.29 million, will receive USD 3.6 million next year. 


Not only teachers' salaries, faculty salaries also increases with increasing the education budget. While previously a lecturer of civil servants group III / B without a certificate with the teaching profession 0 years to get USD 1.8 million, next year his salary increased to Rp 2.26 million. For the professor who is a civil servant class IV / E certified, his salary rose sharply from USD 5.1 million to Rp 13.5 million. 


Director General for Quality Teachers and Education Personnel Baedhowi also expressed about the delay in payment of teachers' professional allowance which constrained the complete document. "There are still 52 thousand teachers who have not completed the document," he said when met after a working meeting with the House Education Committee.
